Working with Waterplan allows the company to continuously anticipate and proactively solve for potential challenges in achieving their 2030 goal.
The Challenge
Water scarcity affects every continent on our planet. While some people aren’t seeing its impact in their communities, others are facing extreme water stress. In fact, nearly one-third of people already live in water-stressed regions and two-thirds of the global population are projected to be by 2025.
In 2022, the company announced a major expansion to their Sustainability under their Climate and Nature pillar including in an increased resource stewardship projects of waste and water that will include making more water available in water-stressed areas around the world. This extended effort includes a global portfolio of water restoration projects which will provide a range of solutions to protect ecosystems, replenish groundwater supplies, reduce the amount of water diverted from essential bodies of water, and improve water quality for the communities and wildlife that depend on them.
Transparently estimating and tracking both impact and progress towards this complex and dynamic goal, globally, requires a fully distributed and dedicated team, incredible organizational skills, and time - or an intuitive, science-based SaaS platform.
The Solution
Water Stewardship Leaders purchased Waterplan to help achieve their goal of becoming Water Positive by 2030. There was immediate interest in Waterplan’s ability to structure and visualize water data, and Waterplan also offered a way to scalably, transparently and accurately estimate the benefit and impact of the projects to be implemented.
During the integration phase, Waterplan met with key stakeholders to understand the sustainability strategy, current restoration projects, and water consumption trends. In a matter of months, this information was integrated onto the platform, digitalizing dozens of repositories that had been manually tracked for years.
This simplified, centralized view of restoration projects lifecycle allows the team to visualize and transparently communicate ongoing progress towards their 2030 goal, globally. Also, Waterplan is helping them find and connect with local partners and restoration projects, along with estimating project benefits throughout the world.
